AERODYNAMICS: WIND TUNNEL TESTED, REAL-WORLD PROVEN

Aerodynamics are a non-negotiable advantage for road cyclists and triathletes—delivering greater efficiency and confidence-inspiring handling, no matter the wind conditions. With more than 15 years of experience developing some of the world’s fastest wheels, ENVE is uniquely qualified to bring best-in-class aerodynamics to the Foundation customer.

Like our SES wheel family, the AR40 was tested and developed in the Mercedes-Benz Formula One wind tunnel to achieve real-world aerodynamic performance. Unlike other wheel brands that test isolated wheels at elite speeds of 30 mph (48 kph), ENVE develops and tests wheels in-frame at multiple speeds ranging from 20 mph (32 kph) to 30 mph (48 kph).

TUBELESS: ROLL FAST, FLAT LESS

Since 2016, ENVE has been converting road riders from inner tubes to tubeless due to the numerous benefits of the system, which include:

Lower rolling resistance – By eliminating the inner tube, the friction between tire and tube is also eliminated, allowing the tire to flex and conform to the road with greater efficiency.
Flat less, ride more – Flat tires are a buzzkill. With a little sealant you can eliminate nearly all flats that would have been caused by an intrusive thorn or piece of debris.

Hookless/Straight-Sidewall Design - Tubeless performance depends on the tire maintaining a light press-fit with the rim on the rim’s bead seat diameter. ENVE chooses a hookless tubeless rim profile as it allows for the critical tolerance at the rim’s bead seat diameter to be both consistent and accurate.

The AR40 is designed for use with tubeless tires greater than 28 mm wide. Please refer to the Tire Compatibility page to see what tires are approved/recommended for use with the AR40.

POT-HOLE AND IMPACT PROTECTION

Potholes and unforeseen impacts are part of the ride, but that doesn’t mean they need to ruin your day. The AR40 features ENVE’s patent pending Wide Hookless Bead which is a design element at the leading edge of the rim that dissipates impact energy and reduces the likelihood of pinch flatting your tubed or tubeless tire

MOLDED SPOKE HOLE

ENVE’s patented process of molding spoke and valve stem holes results in rims that are stronger and lighter. Because carbon fiber gets its strength from continuous fibers, ENVE routes the fibers around the hole without cutting them, increasing the strength of each spoke hole. This technique pays large dividends in the final product by allowing for a lighter spoke face while improving rim strength.

Because of this process, our spoke holes are capable of maintaining higher spoke tensions, greatly reducing the risk of spoke pull-through and the need to constantly true your wheels. Strong, light, and maintenance free.

Texas Chip and Seal Approved.

I got involved in a more rural oriented group ride recently and my Roval wheels and cotton race tires on my SL8 began giving me anxiety. I looked at the at the recommendation of my local bike shop, Cadence Cyclery of McKinney. Decided a 32c tire and this wheel would put any and all road condition anxiety to rest. So I bought a pair. They have been perfection. Right price, right ride, holds a 32c tire without compromised handling. Perfection. The spinning logos only add to the experience. I recommend them to all backroad chip and seal riders I come by.

Amazing upgrade for my bike

I never understood the hype with aftermarket wheels until trying these! I have the AR40's on my 2026 Trek domane plus ALR 5 e bike and they are a game changer. They are 1.04 pounds lighter than factory and with where the weight is I have so much more confidence on my brakes. I can't recommend these enough for anyone on the fence. Look good, ride good

Not gonna lie, I bought these in large part to improve the aesthetics of my matte black Crux. The rims match the paint PERFECTLY and the it doesn’t get any more fast looking than white ENVE logos on a murdered out bike.

Tubeless set up was easy peezy.

Freehub sounds absolutely menacing.

This is my 5th set of ENVE wheels. I have ridden both original foundation 45 and 65, SES AR 4.5 and 3.4. These are honestly competitive with the 3.4 wheels and definitely feel like an improvement over the Foundation 45. Not really fair to compare these AR40 to the 65 or the 4.5

Bottom line they have that ENVE ride quality, handle great and are quite versatile. So far I have only ridden them with Vittoria Terreno Zero 47c, but I am also stoked to put the ENVE 31c road tires on them at some point.

Epic!

They are super fast and same inner drive as pro line. Running 30mm Conti GP5000 on them and they are sublime. Can’t wait to run some thunder burts on them come Traka. Epic wheelset and great upgrade to my MOG.

Great Value Enve wheelset

My first Enve Wheelset. I wasn't ready to go all in on the 4.5s so started here. Setup was a breeze, smooth as silk and faster than my Zipps

Great all around wheels

These are wonderful wheels: intuitive, fast (enough), and comfortable. They are much better than the Fulcrum Racing Zero DB wheels they replaced and competitive with my 3.4 AR on my all road bike. Despite some gusts where I live, they are predictable even on high speed blustery descents. They also make the ubiquitous crappy roads where I live much more comfortable. I suspect it would be difficult to find a better wheel at this price, performance, and style.

Good looking and riding wheels at a reasonable price.
