RJ The Ripper by Joey Schusler

Kids and bikes; wherever you are in the world, they go together. The chaotic streets of Kathmandu may not seem like a typical breeding ground for world-class mountain bikers, but then again nothing is typical about Rajesh (RJ) Magar. Since learning to ride on a beat-up clunker, to becoming the four-time National Champion at age 21, RJ’s story is one of boundless childhood dreaming and unstoppable determination, forged from junkyard scraps and tested on the rugged trails of the mighty Himalaya.

Every so often, a rider comes along that truly builds inspiration from the ground up. When long-time ENVE athlete Joey Schusler reached out to us regarding Rajesh (RJ) Magar, we were intrigued.

“Of all my years traveling the globe on two wheels for both racing and adventures alike, I’ve never met anyone quite like RJ. He has more determination, spirit, and positive energy than any other racer I have ever known. Once I met him, and found this out first hand, his story started to make a lot more sense. It seems impossible to reach a high level of mountain biking coming from such a poor family and such a poor country, but RJ has made it happen, and this is only the beginning for him.” Joey says fondly of RJ.

We would like to proudly share Schusler’s film about this charismatic rider, RJ The Ripper.
