As the popularity of gravel riding increases, so must the maintenance of the places these adventures take place. In order to keep these wild places sustainable and preserved, we rely on groups such as the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship. This non-profit maintains over 800 miles of multi-use trails and focuses on stewardship, job-creation, and event hosting.
To support the group’s work, four frame builders teamed up with four component companies to produce four bikes, of which this McGovern is one. The bikes are to be raffled off during the Lost and Found Gravel race to help benefit the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship, and make sure this event and type of riding is here to stay.
“This was a super fun project, for a few reasons,” says Chris McGovern, founder of his eponymous brand. “The Lost Sierra is what drives most all of my design defaults and the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship is such an amazing organization.”
McGovern’s bike highlights the versatility required of a bike on the area’s many trails. The custom carbon fiber McGovern frame is built with ENVE G23 wheels, Chris King hubs and headset, a SRAM drive-train, and WTB tires. It’s a spec which allows a rider to comfortably and quickly cover many miles of the trails in the Sierra National Forest.
“This bike can race cyclocross at the highest level, but has the clearances to accommodate up to 700x42c tires and 2 chain-rings, if so desired for ever changing gravel adventures,” says McGovern.
We’re excited to see the adventures this bike will tackle in the future. Follow along at @mcgoverncycles and @sierratrails to see more of the great work by McGovern and the Stewardship.
